How do you bond with your pet? I have a new neo mastiff pup ...?

he is so cute and sweet and smart. He's 6 weeks and aside from taking care of him physically and a bit of puppy "baby talk" I'm clueless. I'd love to have a lasting and meaningful relationship with him- any advice?
