Is it ok to profit from saving the rainforest?

The protection of rainforests should be the duty of the people and governments of local states. Rainforests are being exploited because tropical countries need the raw materials and land found in rainforests to sustain their pre-industrial economy. If 'charities' just lay claim to huge expanses of rainforest, local economies will never develop, ultimately leading to conflict with foreign 'charities' that starve local children so Americans can feel OK about driving a hummer.
